The post-Daniel Jones era has left the Giants dealing with a quarterback battle between backups Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock.
DeVito started two weeks ago against Tampa Bay at home and lost, 30-7. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 189 yards with no touchdowns or turnovers for an 83.9 QB rating. He rushed seven times for 32 yards and was sacked four times.
Lock started on Thanksgiving Day in Dallas after DeVito was ruled out with a forearm injury. He completed 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards with no touchdowns and one interception, which was returned for a touchdown. Lock also lost a fumble, which led to another touchdown. He did rush four times for 57 yards and a score and was sacked six times in the game.
“We’ll evaluate the two games that both of those guys played, and look I thought Drew did some good things,” said Daboll. “We got to, obviously, clean up the turnovers. Turnovers, the ones that were seven points to the defense, and then back up when we get some points. We got to make sure we’re taking care of the ball. Give our guys a chance down the field to make some plays.”
The decision will apparently be made on Wednesday but it certainly won’t be cast in stone. Whoever gets the nod will be on a short leash.
