Hello, and welcome back to Statwatch, our weekly look at the game of field hockey through a statistical prism.

This week, we note that Anna Fisher, the junior forward who had 37 goals a year ago, has taken the lead in goals scored thus far in 2024. The WC Eagles standout is leading a team which was 16-3 a year ago and, with seven seniors in the side, will look for more honors than just in its division, which is Section 4 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

Lancaster Country Day, which is 11-0 this season, will have several impressive teams to get through in order to make the state tournament out of the always-difficult District 3-A tournament. Amongst the teams sure to be in the bracket are Elliotsburg West Perry (Pa.) and Oley (Pa.) Valley. As good as the teams in 3-AA and 3-AAA are, there could be a great story here if the Cougars are able to parlay their early successes into tournament glory.

Below is a compilation of available field hockey statistics through this past Wednesday from available sources such as Berks Game Day, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, New Jersey Advance Media, the governing bodies of Kentucky and Michigan, and, of course, the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com platform. I encourage you to get your fellow teams to enter their information there as well as whichever is your local news site, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.

So, what you see in red is not exactly complete; we know there are some stats missing. If you see an error or omission, please feel free to send an email to us at TopOfTheCircle.com. Include some backup (a website will do), and we can make the change.

Thanks for reading; we’ll try to do better next week.
