Former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly the leading candidate to become the next Manchester United boss.

Erik ten Hag is currently under huge pressure amidst United’s extremely poor run of performances and results.

The Red Devils have failed to win any of their last five games across all competitions. The club’s goalless draw with Aston Villa on Sunday left the club in 14th position with just eight points gained in their opening seven top-flight fixtures.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe was present at Villa Park to watch the team in person for the first time since the 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool last month.

He was accompanied by his right-hand man Sir Dave Brailsford, CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

It’s understood that an executive meeting – which will also be attended by Joel Glazer – is set to take place in London on Tuesday, with Ten Hag’s future one of the main items on the agenda.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that while the Dutchman has not been informed that his job is in immediate danger, there is a “growing feeling” that he could be sacked.

A number of replacements have been mooted so far including Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter, Thomas Frank and Tuchel.

Earlier on Monday, it was revealed that United are “lining up” a move for Tuchel in the event that they part ways with the embattled Ten Hag.

David McDonnell of The Mirror has now given an update on that front and indicated that Tuchel is at the top of United’s list of potential Ten Hag replacements.

According to McDonnell, “Erik ten Hag’s fate will be decided on Tuesday when Manchester United’s hierarchy meet for crunch talks – with Thomas Tuchel the new favourite to succeed him.”

“Tuchel held talks with United in the summer, but was unable to reach any agreement with the hierarchy, who then decided to stick with Ten Hag and trigger his one-year contract extension.”

“Tuchel remains a free agent and is understood to be open to a return to management at Old Trafford, despite the breakdown of talks over the summer.”

McDonnell also states that should Ten Hag be fired, assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy “would be likely” to take charge in an interim capacity.
