Man United could still make a move to appoint Thomas Tuchel as their new manager, despite his links to the vacant England job…

It’s now widely expected that Manchester United will look to move in a different managerial direction should the poor results under Erik ten Hag continue.

The Dutchman’s start to the season has been rather poor, hence, the crows are starting to circle and his future is seriously in doubt.

As expected, the links to different managers are now starting to grow in frequency. Not too long ago, Thomas Tuchel was linked with the role.

Now, TEAMtalk have provided an update on the German’s situation, despite the fact he is now being heavily linked with the vacant England role.

According to their information, United ‘still have a chance’ at appointing the 52-year-old as their next manager. The German boss is ‘highly regarded’ due to his Champions League success at Chelsea.

Tuchel is currently out of work following his time at Bayern Munich at the end of last season, though the fact he has been linked with two of the biggest jobs in the world tells you everything you need to know about his coaching ability.

According to TEAMtalk United are now ‘actively looking’ for a replacement for Ten Hag, with Tuchel remaining on the club’s shortlist after they spoke to him in the summer about the possibility of taking over.

Tuchel initially wanted a break from football after leaving Bayern, but he’s now ready to get back into the sport. It’s stated Tuchel would be ‘open’ to speaking to England chiefs about the job, but he’d prefer a role at domestic level as the day-to-day nature of those jobs is more appealing at this stage of his career.

The fact that Tuchel is currently unemployed does help United’s case. It means there’s no compensation fee to pay for his services, while he’d also be able to jump straight into the role.

United would have to act quickly as we’re approaching that stage in the season where clubs will start to consider sacking managers if they’ve had poor starts. Tuchel will be atop most lists at this point in time, so if INEOS are genuinely big fans of the German, they may have to pull the trigger on Ten Hag soon.

If they miss out on Tuchel, it could be a scenario where someone like Ruud van Nistelrooy takes over on an interim basis until the end of the season.
