Joseph Parker uses creative viral video to call for Anthony Joshua rematch
Former world heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) eyes a potential rematch with Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs), calling the Brit out on social media.
After becoming an internet sensation during the Covid-19 lockdown – when he posted a series of viral comedy videos – the talented Parker has decided to continue his success, this time taking aim at a former opponent.
On Wednesday, his video on X – which included Ed Sheeran’s ‘Lego House’ playing in the background – was captioned: “Let’s build a LEGO ring for Parker v Joshua 2.”
The 32-year-old comes off a majority decision victory over Zhilei Zhang, who put him down twice before a strong finish was enough to clinch it for the New Zealander out in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on March 8.
This came after he comprehensively defeated Deontay Wilder in Riyadh, where he dominated the former WBC champion over 12 rounds in one of the biggest upsets of 2023.
Now, with consecutive wins over two of the division’s most dangerous punchers, Parker is back to where he needs to be – a position that never seemed attainable following his 11th-round loss to Joe Joyce back in 2022.
Joshua, meanwhile, is also riding the crest of a wave, with three of his last four wins ending inside the distance.
It could be said that both fighters are vastly improved since their first encounter in 2018, with Parker joining forces with former world middleweight champion Ande Lee and Joshua, after a brief stint with state-side trainer Derrick James, forming a flourishing relationship with his current head coach, Ben Davison.
Moreover, their new styles would, almost certainly, make for a more intriguing matchup, as Parker even hinted to the dullness of their first fight on his social media video, mostly by highlighting the referee’s consistent attempts to prevent them from fighting at close range.
