The Toronto Raptors and center Bruno Fernando amended his contract before he made the opening night roster. Fernando’s contract was set to become fully guaranteed on opening night. That was amended to becoming guaranteed on the league-wide date of January 10.
This was reportedly the difference in Fernando making the team or not. Had the veteran big man not agreed to the pushed-back guaranteed date, the Raptors would have waived him.
This gives Toronto a bit more leeway with the roster, as things develop. With several players out due to injury, the Raptors won’t be on the hook for a fully guaranteed salary, should they need to make a roster move.
