Ryan Garcia revealed his plans for his next two fights today, stating that he’s facing Rukiya Anpo in an exhibition match on December 30th in Japan.
After the three-round exhibition against Anpo, Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) says he wants to get revenge for Mike Tyson by fighting Jake Paul. In other words, Ryan is fighting an exhibition and then a YouTuber. ‘Oh, the pain, the pain.’
The lanky 6’0″ Anpo is the same guy who fought a three-round exhibition against 45-year-old Manny Pacquiao earlier this year on July 28th in Saitama, Japan. He looked like he was trying to knock out the Filipino star. He was teeing on Manny, hitting him with everything in a match that he clearly dominated, but it was scored a three-round draw.
An exhibition is one way for Ryan Garcia to circumvent the one-year ban he received from the New York State Athletic Commission after testing positive for a banned substance after his win over Devin Haney on April 20th in Brooklyn, New York.
Ryan, 26, had better be ready for a rough three rounds because Anpo is not the type of guy who will take it easy on him. He will be fighting in front of his fans in Japan and looking to make a name for himself worldwide. Getting knocked out by Anpo, a kickboxer would be a bad look for Ryan.
If Ryan is serious about fighting cruiserweight Jake Paul, Anpo will prepare him for the kind of power shots he’ll be hit with. However, due to their massive size differences, I don’t see a fight between Ryan and Jake as possible.
Unless Ryan wants to bulk up the way Jake did in his preparation for his eight-rounder against 58-year-old Mike Tyson last Friday night, he would be giving up too much weight for the fight to be seen as feasible.
