Shakur Stevenson trashed Golden Boy and William Zepeda today on social media for them going “quiet” instead of starting up negotiations for a fight in February. In a sign of how desperate Shakur is, he said he would agree to fight Zepeda in a small 18-foot ring. He also labeled Golden Boy and Zepeda “Fake Mexicans.”

Chasing The Big Tuna

Shakur has been counting on that fight happening next, but it looks like Golden Boy and Zepeda are waiting on a bigger prize—The Big Tuna,’ Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Zepeda and Golden Boy can earn loads of money in a fight with Tank. It’s perfectly understandable why they would want to pursue that path rather than a lesser one against Shakur, which wouldn’t attract nearly as much interest. Who needs Shakur when you’ve got Tank?

WBC lightweight champion Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) has been pushing REAL hard for #1 contender Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) to begin negotiations for a fight with him next since his 10-round split decision victory over Tevin Farmer last Saturday at Latino Night in Riyadh.

Zepeda mentioned last Saturday that other champions are mentioning his name, and he wants to make the best deal. The guy that Zepeda and Golden Boy are likely waiting on is Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, the King of the lightweight division.

The Lure Of PPV Gold

A fight between Zepeda and Tank might bring in over 1 million PPV buys and make both fighters tons of money. With Zepeda’s popularity with Mexican fans and his crossover appeal, a fight between him and Tank would be massive.

Tank has a fight on March 1st to get out of the way first against Lamont Roach, but that’s easy work. It won’t be a big deal for him. If Golden Boy can begin negotiations with PBC now for the Tank vs. Zepeda fight, that’s a match that could happen in the summer of 2025
