Young hockey players across Australia have been able to enjoy many moments of joy, all while being inspired by Australia’s Most Decorated Female Paralympian at APM’s Hockey For All Clinics.
Together, APM, Hockey Australia and Hockey WA have joined forces to develop inclusive initiatives in a bid to make hockey a sport for all nationwide.
Kids descended on the inaugural Hockey For All Cup in July, and most recently, the Hockey For All Clinic at Perth Hockey Stadium drew crowds as special guest APM ambassador and Most Decorated Australian Female Paralympian, Ellie Cole gave hockey a go with a crowd of kids at the adapted hockey clinic.
“Being at the Hockey For All Clinic means everything to me,” Ellie said.
“I never had anything like this clinic when I was growing up. I was all on my own because I didn’t have support like this, so to see this amazing initiative and to be inclusive with our sports in our communities is so much more important than I could ever put into words.
“It makes me feel very excited about the future, particularly for sports that include people who have a disability. It’s so important for people to come here today and know that they have a place where they can feel like they belong. It’s a place where they can showcase their true potential.”
To ensure the work continues nationwide, Hockey Australia and APM have launched their Inclusive Clubs Course, aimed at ensuring clubs all across Australia can be inclusive for all.
“Sport is one of those things that the fabric of our community. If our sports aren’t inclusive then our communities aren’t inclusive,” Ellie said.
“It’s really important we have days like ‘Hockey For All’ because it’s an inclusive practice that ensures everyone feels welcomed.”
