Gervonta Davis was less than complimentary about Jared Anderson performance at the weekend
It seems as though Gervonta Davis was not too impressed by heavyweight Jared Anderson’s performance in the ring over the weekend.
In Corpus Christi, Texas, on Saturday, Anderson secured a unanimous decision victory over Ryad Merhy in a 10-round heavyweight clash. However, despite the outcome, the match was met with dissatisfaction from spectators who expressed their disappointment with the lack of action from start to finish with audible boos throughout.
The judges’ scorecards reflected the American’s dominance, with two judges awarding him a shutout victory with scores of 100-90, while the third judge gave Merhy credit for just one round, scoring it 99-91 for Anderson.
Merhy’s output was notably low – he threw only 144 punches, marking it the third-lowest tally in CompuBox’s 39-year history for a 10-round bout.
In contrast, the prospect widely regarded as America’s leading heavyweight hopeful, significantly outpaced Merhy with a staggering 662 punches thrown. Despite his high volume of punches, Anderson struggled to land significant power shots
Comments by Davis on social media were captured by boxing journalist Michael Benson who shared them on X. When asked what he was watching, he cited the heavyweight contest and referred to ‘Big Baby’ as ‘Big sh***y.’
Anderson’s ring return came following his February arrest in Huron Township, Michigan, where he allegedly engaged in a high-speed car chase spanning over six miles and reaching speeds exceeding 130 mph.
Now facing a third-degree felony charge of fleeing a police officer, Jared’s upcoming court appearance is scheduled for Monday. In a separate incident in December 2023, Anderson entered a plea of no contest to charges of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle while a charge stemming from a November 2023 arrest in Ohio was dropped. He received a $200 fine and a 180-day suspended sentence.
Anderson is expected to make his comeback later this summer in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio.
