Man United could look to sign Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni in a big-money deal this summer.
It can be argued that the back line is Manchester United’s most pressing need as the Red Devils approach a huge summer transfer window.
Erik ten Hag has been given no consistency in that area of the pitch, with injuries striking hard. Lisandro Martinez has barely played this term. Raphael Varane will always pick up problems. Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire have had their issues, too. As has Jonny Evans.
In an ideal world, two central defenders will be signed. Jarrad Branthwaite is the name that keeps popping up in the media most often. However, a fresh face has been thrown into the mix; Alessandro Bastoni.
It’s Fichajes with the claim, relaying information from TV Play. In their title, they state that United are set to make a ‘super’ offer for the Serie A’s ‘best’ defender this summer.
United are ‘fully determined’ to strengthen their defence, focusing on Bastoni in the 2024 summer transfer window.
It’s stated that United are ‘willing’ to spend around £51.5m (60m euro) to sign the Italian over the next few months.
The signing of Bastoni is viewed as an ‘important’ move for a side that has leaked goals galore during this season, though you’d expect that after some excellent performances, the Old Trafford club will not be the only interested party.
Several ‘elite’ clubs in Europe are eyeing a move for the 25-year-old, who is yet to reach the peak of his powers.
I’d absolutely love to see this deal happen. Bastoni would bring in experience, quality and consistency. As a long-term partner for the aforementioned Martinez, the Old Trafford club could certainly do much worse.
