Gervonta Davis was going back and forth with Devin Haney in Las Vegas last night. Tank is still giving WBC light welterweight champion Haney grief over his embarrassing loss to Ryan Garcia last month on April 20th.
From the looks of it, the swelling has finally gone down from Haney’s injured jaw from the Garcia fight. There were rumors of Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) suffering a broken jaw. Haney looked like a mess after the fight from the left hooks that he was eating from Ryan.
Sorry Bill, Tank Isn’t Biting
Devin’s dad, Bill Haney, had spent the better part of the promotion for the Ryan Garcia fight talking up a fight against ‘the ‘Face of Boxing’ Tank Davis (29-0, 27 KOs), acting like the win was in the bag against Kingry.
Tank ain’t going to fight Haney. Bill is going to have to look in another direction for his son, Devin’s next fight, but it would be smart to keep him far away from any punchers because he doesn’t have the chin to be dealing with anyone with pop in their punches.
Bill was so confident of victory that he was trying to hustle his next fight against Tank. It didn’t work out well for Devin, with Ryan knocking him down three times en route to a 12-round majority decision win.
Haney vs. Sandor Martin?
Ryan hasn’t said he’s not going to give Haney a rematch, so he’s going to have to defend against his WBC mandatory Sandor Martin or try and work out a step-aside deal so he can fight someone else.
If Haney wants to work out a sweet step-aside deal, he can then take on a tomato can to boost his self-confidence. That might be the smart choice.
If it gets too hot in the kitchen, Haney can always vacate his WBC title and just go rogue as Ryan does and be free of entanglements that come with holding a world title and having to deal with mandatory commiments.
