Man United are going to do everything they can to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton this summer.
On a daily basis now, we’re covering Manchester United links to centre-backs. It feels like the number one target for the Red Devils going into a huge summer transfer window.
Among the names atop that list is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. The Englishman, who continues to go from strength-to-strength with The Toffees, is not going to come cheaply for the eventual winner of his signature.
Football Transfers have provided the latest on that front, claiming United are now going ‘all in’ to sign the 21-year-old this summer. However, they will not have it all their own way, as fierce competition from both Manchester City and Newcastle United has emerged to acquire the player.
Sources claim it won’t be ‘smooth sailing’ for United, as Real Madrid are also keen.
In terms of transfer cost, Everton are likely to ask for around £75m for Branthwaite’s signature, though an initial £65m up front, plus the rest in add-ons, could be enough to bring in the player.
Everton are reluctant to sell one of their prized assets, though to keep in line with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, they may have to cash in on a big name player.
There can be no doubt that Branthwaite would be a stunning signing. He feels perfect for the current Erik ten Hag system and although it’d represent a large outlay, the Englishman is someone who could easily provide a decade of service for the Red Devils over the course of his career.
