Lawrence Okolie has “a whole world of options” after becoming champion again
WBC world bridgerweight champion Lawrence Okolie (20-1, 15KO) dethroned the reigning champion Lukasz Rozanski in his own backyard in Poland last month to win a world title at a second weight, after formerly holding the WBO bauble at cruiserweight.
The Hackney fighter is now weighing up the options for his next move, debating between a world title defence to the Interim titleholder at bridgerweight, Kevin Lerena, or a move up to heavyweight in search for a third weight world title.
Speaking to IFL TV, the two-weight champion firstly reflected on winning his second world title up at bridgerweight, “It’s breathtaking, I’m happy for myself, my family, my friends, and it’s created a whole world of options.”
He then hinted at what could come next, “I would like the Kevin Lerena [fight] as a step up toward heavyweight, but at the same time there’s been talks about some big heavyweight fights that I’m interested in, so we’ll see.”
Londoner Okolie has recently been linked to in-form Kiwi, Joseph Parker, who has won his last five fights to become the WBO Interim beltholder.
“He’s in a great position; obviously you can’t go for the top boys, so Joseph Parker is the highest at this current crop and, you know, I’m 31 so it’s time to get stuck in there with some big, dangerous boys.”
“The Sauce” then backed himself to stop Parker if they fought; but only one man has been able to do just that – Joe Joyce.
“If we box, I believe that I can knock out anyone. When I watch him, I think I’ve got enough punch power to the do the job,” Okolie concluded.
