Tyler Denny goes from strength to strength with his biggest win yet
Midlands middleweight Tyler Denny (19-2-3, 1KO) defeated unbeaten Felix Cash (16-1, 10KO) via a technical decision win when a cut left challenger Cash unable to continue.
The ringside physician ruled Cash unable to continue early in the fifth round due to a cut on his right eyelid after an accidental head clash.
Judges Lee Every (49-47), Victor Loughlin (49-47) and Kevin Parker (49-46) all scored for Denny.
The win saw Denny retain his European middleweight title in their DAZN main event Saturday from Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England.
“I’m buzzing. I was battering him around,” Denny told DAZN’s Jamie Ward. “He was never going to last. He was tiring after two rounds.”
31-year-old Cash hadn’t fought in 18 months and it showed.
Southpaw Denny was mobile, elusive and tricky as Cash tried to find angles and openings. The Rowley Regis star clever and awkward, Cash could barely land a punch on the Midlander.
The first round was very active and when the pair came together there was animosity and rabbit punching, with referee Mark Lyson having to have a stern word with both boxers.
The champion continued to achieve success and managed to stun Cash in the fourth round with a backhand left on the chin.
In the fifth round, referee Lyson called in the ringside doctor to inspect the laceration on Cash’s eyelid and ruled that the challenger couldn’t continue.
Denny’s amazing six-fight win streak incudes the following scalps in order: River Wilson-Bent; Bradley Rea; Brad Pauls; Macauley McGowan; Matteo Signani; Felix Cash – four of which were previously unbeaten.
Despite the Midlander’s incredible run, the triumph comes as an upset win and a surprise to many who believed the unbeaten, powerful Cash, with 10 KOs from 16 victories, would stop the champion.
Cash’s bad luck carries on, after injuries and illnesses have kept the contender out of the ring for over a year and now he will have to rebuild after his first professional loss. Cash was due to challenge Matteo Signani when he was the reigning European champion but was forced to withdraw on fight week after falling ill.
