Man United are said to be keeping an eye on Eddie Howe’s situation at Newcastle United.

Manchester United have delivered a mixed start to the season points-wise, though the performances have been far more encouraging.

The Old Trafford side played some lovely stuff away at Crystal Palace, though Erik ten Hag’s side could not find the back of the net. The Dutchman’s long-term future in the Reds dugout remains far from certain.

As a result, the 20-time Premier League champions could start looking elsewhere. According to Football Insider, Eddie Howe is a possibility.

According to FI’s latest information, United are ‘closely monitoring’ the 46-year-old manager’s situation at Newcastle United, after his recent boardroom bust-up.

Howe and Newcastle’s new Sporting Director, Paul Mitchell, haven’t seen eye-to-eye, throwing the Englishman’s future up in the air.

United themselves aren’t still fully sold on Ten Hag, who remains ‘under the microscope’.

Howe is said to tick a lot of boxes at United, with board members admiring him for the way he has transformed Newcastle United since his arrival in the North East.

Don’t get me wrong, I like what Howe has done for Newcastle United, though I’m not sure he’s ready for another step up to Manchester United. He has come under scrutiny sometimes at St. James’ Park and if he cannot cope with the pressure there, he’d have no chance at Old Trafford.

I honestly think this would be a downgrade on Ten Hag, too. The ex-Ajax man is building something now that he has a squad in place that is largely made up of his signings. We need to curb the talk of potentially replacing him, particularly as it’s still so early on in the new season.
