German star Abass Baraou (15-1, 9KO) defends his European super-welterweight title against Brit boxer Macaulay McGowan (20-4-2, 5KO), live on Channel 5, this Friday, June 14, on the Wasserman Boxing ‘Extra Time’ event in Bolton.

It was an impressive and dominant performance from Ben Marksby to move to 10-0 with a unanimous decision victory.
Chloe Watson vs Kate Radomska
Chloe Watson secured a convincing shutout points win over six rounds, scored at 60-54, against Polish-born Irish-based Kate Radomska.
Watson immediately called for Maiseyrose Courtney after her latest win, telling her rival to be ready for September.
Ryan Kelly vs Gerome Warburton
10×3 Commonwealth Silver Middleweight Title
After a 10-round battle, the middleweights couldn’t be split as the fight was declared a draw.
Lerrone Richards vs Steed Woodall
10×3 WBO Intercontinental Super Middleweight Title
Huge upset as Steed Woodall defied the odds to KO former world champion Lerrone Richards.
Unbeaten ‘Sniper the Boss’ led with a right jab from his southpaw stance, then threw a lazy backhand left to the body, which Woodall countered with a momentous right hook to the chin. The 31-year-old Londoner was stunned and unable to move for a split-second. Woodall pounced and another clipping, long-reaching right to the chin knocked the favourite down.
He bravely rose to his feet, walked towards referee Steve Gray as instructed, but a slight misstep proved to the official that he was in no state to continue.
The official time was 1:39 of the sixth round.
Abass Baraou vs Macaulay McGowan
12×3 European Super Welterweight Title
R1: Trained by Jorge Rubio, Abass Baraou looked relaxed and confident as he jabbed to head and body, McGowan seemed a little jittery early on. However, he soon settled in and landed a good uppercut midway. When Baraou tried to walk him down, McGowan stepped in to smother his work. Good round for McGowan.
R2: The EBU champ comes out jabbing in the second, pins McGowan to the ropes who responds with a neat three-punch combo. Baraou is visibly and audibly stronger. McGowan lands a nice left hook to the head after a break, then Baraou lands big to the body. The round is spent mostly fought in close range, head to head. Exciting, active round, plenty of punches form both ways.
R3: Baraou’s shots are strong and thumping, McGowan’s are snappy and swift. In the last 30, there was a huge left hook to the body from Baraou, but McGowan just shrugged it off and continued to fight back.
R4: The Berlin boxer lands a triple jab to start. McGowan is firmly on the backfoot now. Baraou is giving himself space to work now, no longer going nose to nose. McGowan is just being hunted down, until he keeps Baraou on the ropes for a time as he launched several straight shots. The pair spent the rest of the round trading to make it the best round yet. Baraou started so dominantly but McGowan turned it around.
R5: The super-welters meet in the middle and trade. McGowan lands a strong left hook to the chin as Baraou takes his foot off the gas. He soon gets back on the front foot but is unable to land much meaningful. Interesting round, McGowan possibly nicking it.
R6: Baraou loads up and misses wildly with a left hook. He lands another shortly after. McGowan’s straight shots don’t have much weight behind them, but Baraou’s compact style enables him to land strong hooks. Baraou using his left shoulder to lean on and push McGowan back, perhaps sensing his opponent may be weakening as we enter the second stage of the contest.
R7: McGowan is bleeding from the nose and looking marked up around the eyes and forehead. McGowan lands a strong right hook, but mostly blocked by Baraou. McGowan was told by Joe Gallagher in the corner to throw the right hook and it’s working for him. Baraou is unfazed and has his hands down by his hips. Then he ends the round with a big straight right to the head.
R8: A game McGowan is really rallying in the eighth, getting the better of Baraou in constant exchanges for the full three minutes. Baraou got back in control for the last minute but McGowan was still going like an energiser bunny! Barry Jones at ringside made the valid point that as soon as McGowan stopped working, Baraou just took back over.
R9: Round nine is spent in the pocket, just trading non-stop. Baraou takes time to smile and shake his head in defiance, but McGowan is relentless, but then a left uppercut from the German got through the middle of the guard and drew a response from McGowan as his gumshield almost got knocked out. He backed off and ended the session on unsteady legs.
R10: Another round spent in close quarters, but it’s the champion landing the clean, eyecatching shots. As soon as there’s a bit of space open up between them, Baraou lands two huge shots to dislodge McGowan’s gumshield in the final 20 seconds.
R11: McGowan lands a clean right hand to the face one minute in. Baraou is busier in this penultimate round and looking so fresh, like he’s in round one. McGowan has taken so much punishment up to now and his face tells the picture. McGowan lands a long left hook to the body after a break, but he is too brave for his own good and staggers back to his corner where Joe Gallagher tells him he’s going to pull him from the fight.
R12: McGowan takes his trainer’s advice and uses his feet to keep on the outside at the start of the round. McGowan continues to throw and continues to take short, strong shots back. McGowan’s gumshield comes out again. Baraou lands a big left hook, but somehow the challenger makes it to the final bell. He’s well beaten, no chance of having his hand raised, but the plucky performance will be remembered for some time.
Scores were read as 117-111, 119-110, 118-110 to Baraou.
Dan Toward vs Ali El Said
8×3 Super Welterweight contest
Dan Toward secured a third stoppage from four fights, with a wicked backand left from his southpaw stance. Ali El Said stood stunned against the ropes, unable to protect himself, as Toward went in for more but was pulled away from the referee.
