Adrien Rabiot is now the priority midfield signing for Erik ten Hag this summer.
Manchester United’s squad is going to look very different at the start of next season. The Old Trafford club may have limited funds to work with right now, though more money could be generated after significant player sales.
Centre-back is perhaps the most pressing need right now, though there’s a genuine argument that bringing in at least one new midfielder is just as important.
CaughtOffside have provided an update on the Reds’ middle of the park situation on Sunday morning, claiming that United are planning to replace two players in that area of the field; Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
CaughtOffside have also offered news on who could replace those guys, with Adrien Rabiot now a top target.
They claim that the 29-year-old midfielder is now Ten Hag’s ‘priority’ signing in that area of the field this summer.
Rabiot was a target for Ten Hag during his first campaign in charge, though at that time, a move didn’t materialise as the World Cup winner chose to stay in Turin with Juventus instead. Now, the Dutch manager is looking to revisit a move for the midfielder.
This is a signing that would mean United become younger in midfield, while Rabiot still provides experience and quality in abundance.
The issue here is that Rabiot has often talked up a transfer away from his current club, in order to secure better terms from Juventus. Who better to use than United? Who have often overpaid for these types of players in the past.
This could absolutely be a play from Rabiot’s agents in order to secure their client a better deal, so if I’m United, I’d be very wary about making an official approach.
