Alejandro Garnacho was one of the bright sparks in Manchester United’s crushing defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night.

In a season where United fans have had little to be excited about, the progress of the Argentine has certainly been up there with the best moments of the season for the Old Trafford faithful.

He raced onto a loose Chelsea pass, used his frightening pace to break from the Blues’ backline and kept his cool to slot the ball into the corner to halve his side’s deficit after they had gone 2-0 down early on in the proceedings.

Garnacho would then go on to complete United’s comeback in the second half when, during a lightening counter-attack, he headed in from Antony’s sumptuous cross.

Unfortunately, he was subbed off and his side would go on to spectacularly bottle the lead and conspire to lose two goals in the final 82 seconds to create a record as the team who have been winning the latest in a match and still go on to collect zero points.

However, United’s 19 year old did make history for the right reasons during the match.

His impressive exploits made him the first teenager to score 2+ goals in three Premier League matches in a season since Michael Owen in 1998-99.

With eight Premier League contests left to play, he will be licking his lips at the prospect of passing Owen’s total and maybe even bagging his first ever senior hat-trick.

His previous braces came in the remarkable 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day and also against West Ham in a rare comfortable 3-0 win for his side.

The 2022 Youth Cup winner’s efforts also meant that he has now scored or assisted more goals (10) than any other teenager in the Premier League.

What’s more, only Girona teenage star Savio has more goal contributions in Europe’s top five leagues than Garnacho.

His impressive progress this season has worryingly attracted interest from sides such as Real Madrid but INEOS will certainly fight tooth and nail to keep the winger, who is certainly one of the brightest starlets in European football right now.
