Well, that was interesting.

After a couple of titanic matches involving FCIAC teams and their private-school opponents, it was St. Anthony’s and McDonogh coming out ahead in their respective games. But it doesn’t get any easier, as Darien takes on both Garden City and St. Anthony’s this week.

This, plus the Fairfield Derby between New Canaan and Darien, is part of a run-in before the Gains for Brains showcase on Long Island in a couple of weekends. That event is likely to jumble these rankings even further.

1. South Huntington St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) 6-0
The Friars raced out to an 8-1 lead against New Canaan, but held on for the win last weekend
2. Olney Good Counsel (Md.) 14-0
The Falcons take on Alexandria Bishop O’Connell (Va.) tomorrow before playing Alexandria Bishop Ireton (Va.) in three days
3. Newtown Square Episcopal Academy (Pa.) 13-0
The Churchwomen have been using balanced scoring all year. Defeated Springside-Chestnut Hill (Pa.) 13-4 last time out
4. Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.) 8-1
Eagles got a steal and score from Lela Greene to defeat Darien (Conn.) 5-4 in a neutral-site game in Hillsborough, N.J.
5. New Canaan (Conn.) 3-1
The Rams fell behind St. Anthony’s last weekend and ran out of time catching up. New Canaan took on Rumson-Fair Haven (N.J.) yesterday in another interstate match
6. Darien (Conn.) 1-0

The Blue Wave had chances to try to win the game against McDonogh; the Fairfield County derby on Apr. 25th should be a bellweather match
7. Garden City (N.Y.) 6-0
Trojans met Darien (Conn.) yesterday and have Manhasset (N.Y.) on the weekend
8. Manchester (Md.) Valley 7-0
Mavericks have not allowed an opponent double-digit goals this season
9. Charlottesville St. Anne’s Belfield (Va.) 13-1
Since Spring Fling, the Saints have been on a tear. Friday’s game against Washington Georgetown Visitation (D.C.) will be a telling contest
10. Denver Colorado Academy (Colo.) 9-0
Friday’s showdown with Englewood Kent Denver (Colo.) will be a big prep game before meeting Highlands Ranch Valor Christian (Colo.) next week

Who’s out: Bethesda Stone Ridge (Md.) 14-12 loss to Sacred Heart Greenwich (Conn.)

And bear in mind: Danville San Ramon Valley (Calif.) 12-1, Atherton Sacred Heart (Calif.) 14-1, San Francisco St. Ignatius (Calif.) 10-4, Denver Colorado Academy (Colo.) 9-0, Lakeville Hotchkiss School (Conn.) 5-0, Sacred Heart Greenwich (Conn.) 6-1, Delray American Heritage (Fla.) 16-1, Orlando Lake Highland Prep (Fla.) 14-3, Severn Archbishop Spalding (Md.) 6-2, Lutherville Maryvale Prep (Md.) 10-1, Brooklandville St. Paul’s School for Girls (Md.) 8-4, Hingham Notre Dame Academy (Mass.) 2-0, Summit (N.J.) 4-1, Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.) 6-2, Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) 6-1, Manhasset (N.Y.) 4-1, Upper Arlington (Ohio) 9-0, Radnor Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) 7-1
