The San Antonio Spurs were focused on choosing Mitch Johnson over Brett Brown to take over as interim head coach for Gregg Popovich despite Brown’s experience, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Popovich is out indefinitely due to health concerns, though Johnson said he was “doing good.”
The 63-year-old Brown has taken a role as a mentor to both the Spurs playing roster and coaching staff.
Stein adds that Johnson was briefly considered as a candidate for the Wizards job last season.
