Canelo Alvarez, when asked which opponent angered him the most, told PremierBoxing: “Billy Joe Saunders – that f***er p***ed me off, that’s why he got what he deserved. Some fighters talk to sell a fight, but I think he’s a bad person and I really enjoyed beating that guy.”
Mexican superstar Canelo defeated the Brit back in May 2021 to unify WBC and WBO World super-middleweight titles.
The powerful puncher was able to break Saunders’ eye socket to force a retirement after the eighth round.
The uppercut caused so much damage that BJS had to have surgery to repair multiple fractures to his eye socket and cheekbone.
The former two-weight world champion from Hatfield hasn’t been seen in a boxing ring since.
Despite his faults, he was able to admit that he was beaten by the better man on the night.
