Coming up on September 14th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a super middleweight championship bout that will be streamed on DAZN P.P.V. – undefeated challenger Edgar Berlanga will square off against unified and lineal world super middleweight champion, the one and only Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo turned 34 last month, which is not especially old in today’s boxing landscape, especially north of 160. But unlike most elite boxers in their mid-30s in the modern era, Canelo has already had a long and arduous career competing at the championship level spanning more than 13 years. Canelo has an incredible resume and will undoubtedly become a future first ballot Hall of Famer. However, since suffering his loss against Bivol, Canelo seems to be shifting his career trajectory somewhat, where the calculation on risk vs reward is beginning to shift hugely toward minimizing the risk.
Berlanga’s record is a perfect one, with 22 victories and 17 wins coming by way of knockout. Berlanga won his first 16 fights by knockout, all of them by 1st round knockout, but most of them against overmatched opposition. Once he started fighting 10 and 12 rounders, the knockout power seemed less impressive than his early run indicated. In his most recent bout back in February, Berlanga scored a 6th round knockout against Padraig McCrory.
So who will win the upcoming super middleweight championship contest between Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga?
