Jamie Carragher believes Rasmus Hojlund has joined Man United one or two years too early.
Manchester United Football Club spent some pretty big money last summer, in an attempt to back Erik ten Hag as he looks to return the glory days to Old Trafford.
Unfortunately, it has been a devastatingly-bad campaign for the Red Devils and their manager, who could well be facing the sack at the end of this campaign.
His largest-money signing twelve months ago was Rasmus Hojlund. The young Dane came in with promise aplenty, setting the tone with his hard-working performances from day one. The fans loved him immediately.
But for a purple patch around Christmas time, it has been a brutal season for Hojlund, most notably due to a lack of service. Sadly, that’s the thing strikers need the most. He’s had none of it.
It says a lot that Liverpool icon, Jamie Carragher, has admitted he feels a ‘bit sorry’ for the big-money Man United signing, claiming that the Reds move perhaps came one or two years too early.
Check out what Carragher had to say on Hojlund in full here:
‘I feel a bit sorry for Hojlund, he’s a young lad, the jump he has made is probably a bit too much for him to start with,’ Carragher said on the Stick to Football podcast.
‘He should have gone somewhere else for two years then to United maybe. I just feel sorry for him.’
It’s a weird situation because Hojlund himself has been pretty good. You cannot question his attitude or effort. He’s just had very little to feed on. The only times he’s scored is when he’s done it all on his own, which is brutal, particularly for a young player.
I guess that the good news is that as time goes on, you’d like to think he’d be delivered more service as I feel like it simply cannot get any worse for him than it is right now.
We just have to hope that Hojlund’s confidence hasn’t been hit as a direct result of this lack of help. We have a huge FA Cup final just on the horizon, and a goal or two in the few league games leading up to the Wembley showpiece would be a massive boost for the young man.
