Chantelle Cameron frustrated with rival Katie Taylor for turning down trilogy decider
Former undisputed super-lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron has declared her frustration with boxing icon, Katie Taylor, after the Irishwoman seemingly turned down the chance to complete the trilogy with her English rival.
Cameron upset the odds when she handed Taylor a first career defeat almost 12 months ago, but just six months later Taylor triumphed in the rematch to claim Cameron’s throne and become a two-division undisputed champion, albeit via a controversial majority-decision victory in her hometown.
The Northampton sensation has now parted ways with trainer Jamie Moore, in favour of a move to Grant Smith’s Sheffield stable.
Although, it seems as though Cameron will not get the chance to see if Smith’s involvement in a potential trilogy against Taylor would prove effective, amid reports that Katie Taylor has instead opted to rematch Amanda Serrano, as Cameron told Sky Sports of her frustration at the news.
“She’s not taking the trilogy. I feel like months have been wasted of my career now,”
“As much as I wanted the trilogy for selfish reasons, for the fact that I want to fight for my belts, it would have been so good for women’s boxing and kept women’s boxing on the rise.”
“I accepted the money that was offered and in my eyes I thought it was a done deal, I was good to go. I accepted less money, had no demands whatsoever.”
“There’s massive fights out there for me, but all I want is my 140lb belts back. The way that Katie won them, I can’t let them go like that. I need to get a shot at getting them belts back.”
Chantelle Cameron remains as the mandatory challenger for three of the four belts that she lost to Taylor in their rematch, and she went on to explain that reclaiming the super-lightweight crown is her only goal, rather than a move up to 147lbs.
