New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was benched in the fourth quarter of the team’s 28-3 battering at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Jones, who threw for just 99 yards on 14-of-21 passing, was replaced by Drew Lock, who showed why he is a backup.
Head coach Brian Daboll told reporters he pulled Jones hoping Lock could provide a spark. He also said Jones will be the team’s quarterback next week when the Giants face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football.

Jones was sacked seven times in the game and hit a total of 11. He rushed four times for a total of 20 yards.
Daboll was asked what he felt was going wrong on offense after the Giants gained just 119 yards against the Eagles.
“Just not good enough all the way around,” he said. “It’s hard to generate points when your longest play is 14 yards.”
When it was brought to Daboll’s attention that Jones had not been able to create explosive plays in the three years he has been the Giants’ coach, he had little to say.
“We have guys around him that can create explosive plays. We’ll go back to the drawing board and do the very best we can,” Daboll remarked.
The best they can just hasn’t been good enough.
