Deontay Wilder believes Oleksandr Usyk is terrified of him
Former long-reigning WBC World heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, has publicly accused two-weight undisputed champion, Oleksandr Usyk, of ducking him for years.
Ukrainian Usyk is unbeaten in 22 bouts, whereas Wilder has lost four from his last five fights and hasn’t been a world champion in over four years.
The American ‘Bronze Bomber’ accused Usyk of being scared of him during a recent interview: “This man is terrified of me. He’s dodged me so many times. He’s been offered a lot of money to fight me many times but he refuses each time, they said that they didn’t want any trouble with the [Bomb] Squad.”
Usyk is preparing for his rematch with Tyson Fury on December 21 in Saudi Arabia. The 37-year-old narrowly triumphed over ‘The Gypsy King’ last May to be crowned the first undisputed heavyweight champion of this century.
Wilder has won just one fight within the last five years. But despite finding himself in the wilderness, his name is still mentioned in potential big fights, with some calling for him to finally fight Joshua, who is also licking his wounds following defeat.
