Manchester United are reportedly prepared to go all out in the summer for Boca Juniors defensive prospect Aaron Anselmino.
Reinforcing the defensive department appears to be United’s main priority ahead of the upcoming transfer window. With Raphael Varane’s imminent departure now confirmed and uncertainty over the future of the likes of Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, it makes sense why United are eager to dip into the market for reinforcements.
The Red Devils have been linked to plenty of central defenders including Jarrad Branthwaite, Jean-Clair Todibo, Ronald Araujo, Marc Guehi, Edmond Tapsoba, Leny Yoro, Antonio Silva and of course, young Anselmino.
Due to the constraints brought about by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, United are believed to have taken a greater interest in the South American football scene, where relatively unknown gems can be obtained in cut-price deals.
It’s not only Boca’s Anselmino that United are thought to be keen on. There are other starlets like Juan Gimenez, Franco Mastantuono, Ian Subiabre and Tomas Parmo.
Earlier this month, it emerged that Anselmino put pen to paper on a fresh deal that effectively abolished his modest release clause.
Any European outfit that wishes to secure his services must now negotiate with Boca, who are free to demand whatever fee they deem to be fair.
A fresh report from Argentina has now stated that Chelsea and United are the two teams with the strongest interest in the 19-year-old defender.
The two Premier League giants “are willing to do anything” to land him and it’s entirely possible that the player could move this summer.
United have had their eye on him since the start of 2024 as have Chelsea. The report notes that “money wouldn’t be a problem” for either suitor.
Both of them are “determined” and “willing to make a superior offer” to the tune of €25m (£21m) – quite a hefty fee for a teenager yet to represent the Albiceleste at any age group.
Anselmino – who has made nine senior appearances to date for Boca – is currently recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in April during a match against Sportivo Trinidense.
He’s carefully managing his recovery to ensure the issue doesn’t aggravate.
