Erik ten Hag has explained why Jadon Sancho was not involved, as Man United beat Fulham 1-0.

Manchester United Football Club edged out Fulham under the Old Trafford floodlights on Friday, with Joshua Zirkzee scoring the winner.

The game itself was a close affair, though the Red Devils deserved the win, despite some wasted chances in the final third. Perhaps Jadon Sancho could have made a positive difference if he were in the squad.

Eyebrows were raised when the Englishman wasn’t involved, though after the game, Erik ten Hag has explained Sancho’s absence, claiming that the winger was dealing with an ear infection, while there’s also a limited number of players he can name on the bench.

Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:

“First of all we need squad depth, this season will be survival of the fittest, I can only put 20 players in the squad,” Ten Hag said, per the Daily Mirror. “Then Jadon in the week had an ear infection, he was not 100 per cent fit. He could play but we made the choice, we preferred [to have] others on the bench. But that can change. It will change.”

Sancho’s situation is an intriguing one. After a very public fallout with manager Ten Hag, it looked like he was destined to be sold on a permanent transfer. That may still happen despite the pair kissing and making up.

I still believe that with a fully fit squad, Sancho doesn’t get given much game time. With that in mind, it could make sense to move him on now while he has decently-high value following a successful loan spell with Borussia Dortmund.

The problem? I’m not sure any clubs out there would be willing to meet United’s asking price, which we believe stands at around £40m.
