McTominay and his team-mates can now look ahead to Sunday, when they take on bottom side Hungary in their Group A closer at Stuttgart’s MHPArena.

Leaders Germany are out of reach on six points, but Scotland can still finish second and progress from the group stage for the first time in their history.

They would need a win, a German victory over Switzerland and a goal difference swing of six in their favour to overtake Murat Yakin’s side.

Finishing as one of the four best third-placed sides is, perhaps, a more realistic target, but Hungary are aiming for the same objective, despite losing both games so far.
