Midfield seems to be the priority for Manchester United in the final week of the summer transfer window with three outgoings planned while Manuel Ugarte is on his way to sign on the dotted lines.

After Fulham and Galatasaray failed with multiple bids, it was Napoli who won the race for Scott McTominay, someone Erik ten Hag did not want to lose.

Hannibal Mejbri is another player on his way out, with Championship side Burnley his permanent destination. Christian Eriksen is another whom the club want to sell but no concrete bids have been received thus far.

At one point it seemed like the Uruguayan would not be heading to Old Trafford with Paris Saint-Germain’s excessive demands proving too much for the INEOS to handle as they exited negotiations.

Amrabat’s future

There were murmurs of another loan approach for Sofyan Amrabat, who had struggled for the majority of his temporary stint at the club last term after Erik ten Hag fought hard for his inclusion but did make amends in the FA Cup final.

The Moroccan remained a backup option in case the Ugarte deal went south but with the PSG star on his way to Manchester, Amrabat is likely to head to pastures anew this summer.

Fenerbahce are close to sealing his signature with the Fiorentina star open to a move to Turkiye to join up with former United boss Jose Mourinho.

But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Premier League side Everton also want the Morocco international on a loan with an obligation to buy as is the case with the Turkish club.

Everton want Amrabat

“Negotiations underway between Fenerbahçe and Fiorentina for Sofyan Amrabat. €2m loan and €12m mandatory buy clause offered, Fiorentina want more.

“Talks continue as Amrabat also received an approach from Everton today,” Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Even with the addition of the Ugarte, United still need cover in the middle of the park keeping in mind Casemiro’s ageing legs and the fear of another injury curse striking like last season.

With Amrabat now looking like he’s off the table, it remains to be seen if United approach free agent Adrien Rabiot instead.
