Everton are now doing their utmost to keep Jarrad Branthwaite at Goodison Park, amid Man United interest.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with moves to sign centre-halves for practically the whole summer. It makes sense after Raphael Varane left for Como, while Victor Lindelof may also be moved on if the right offer arrives.

A move to acquire Leny Yoro happened quickly, though United have never ruled out signing multiple central defenders during this window. Hence, moves to acquire either Jarrad Branthwaite or Matthijs de Ligt remain a possibility.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Branthwaite this morning – and it’s grim news for Reds supporters.

According to his latest information, Everton are now ‘determined’ to keep ahold of Branthwaite, after rejecting two proposals from United to acquire the player. So much so that they’re now planning new contract talks for the defender.

United currently have no intention of paying the £75-80m fee that The Toffees are demanding for the Englishman, after heavy interest in Branthwaite for many months.

Check out Fabrizio Romano’s X post on the news here:

Fair play. This is an Everton player and they’re well within their rights to demand whatever they want. Branthwaite is under contract and they’re under no real pressure to sell.

For United, it’s now time to move on and focus fully on acquiring De Ligt, assuming they’re dead-set on bringing in two new central defenders this summer.

Perhaps the opportunity to acquire Branthwaite will pop up again in future summer transfer windows, but for now, this feels like a transfer that is completely dead in the water.
