Former Manchester United full-back Danny Simpson is set to try his hand at a new sport in the coming weeks.

The 37-year-old has announced he will be making his boxing debut at the end of the month as part of a Misfits event.

As reported by The Mirror, Simpson will be stepping into the ring to fight YouTuber Danny Aarons in Dublin on August 31.

The defender retired from professional football at the end of last season and confirmed the news on his Instagram account earlier this week.

“So It’s Official. I’ll be making my boxing debut on the 31st of August in Dublin on the @misfitsboxing card. Excited for fight night. Let’s have some fun,” he wrote.

His opponent, Aarons, also took to social media to alert fans about the upcoming bout.

“Fighting a premier league winner wasn’t on my 2024 bingo card but here we are,” alongside a laughing emoji.

Misfits boxing are hoping to entice more former footballers into the squared circle in a bid to increase their ever-growing brand.

YouTube sensation KSI is behind the event as well as the Misfits franchise and is pushing hard to persuade the likes of Wayne Rooney to get involved.

Rooney held talks with KSI’s team but a deal could not be agreed this time around.

Simpson is the first former player to try his hand with Misfits and the event is expected to attract major interest from fans around the world.

The former right-back only made eight appearances for United’s first team during his spell at Old Trafford but went on to have an excellent career with multiple clubs including Leicester City, where he lifted the Premier League trophy in 2016.
