Gully Powar aiming to finish the year at 12-0
One of Britain’s most active prospects, Gully Powar (11-0, 1KO), has been testing himself against a wide range of opponents, and just two years after turning professional, he will box for the 12th time on BCB Promotions ‘Backlash’ at the Hangar Venue on December 6th.
The 22-year-old super featherweight from Wolverhampton made a successful step up to eight rounds last time out, headlining the same venue he will return to next month with a shutout points win over Eliecer Quezada. The Nicaraguan was his sixth foreign opponent in a row, which is uncommon, and Powar explains he likes the challenge that the international fighters bring.
“It’s simple; I love boxing and love fighting, said Powar. It was the same when I was an amateur; I never wanted to be out of the ring for a long period of time. Being this active means I can constantly improve and learn; it’s also pushing me up the rankings, and I am very ambitious; I want to get to the next level. I love feeling the thrill of being in a fight, which keeps me completely focused.
“These guys have a bit of flare about them. They definitely come to fight, and at some stage I will be boxing international opponents at title level, so it makes sense to get that experience while I am still learning. Quezada had a bit of power, and he was very tough. I hurt my hand on his head and thought I might get him out of there in the sixth, but he’s got a good record and has boxed a lot heavier than me in his career.”
Powar has built up a large online following, but he is no social media boxer. He is keen to stress that at his age he isn’t looking to rush in and that he and coach Richie Carter from Wolverhampton Boxing Club have a long-term plan.
“I don’t mind who my next opponent is; it could be Southpaw; it could be orthodox; it could be taller or shorter. I want to test myself and what we have worked on in the gym. I have a lot more to show, and Richie calls me his dark horse, as we are waiting patiently and will surprise a lot of people when the time comes to step up. I’m grateful for all the support I have online and what we are building. I haven’t lost a single round in a fight yet, and I expect the same on the 6th,” Powar concluded.

Troy Coleman Withdraws From December 6 Bout Due To Injury
Troy Coleman was due to headline the event, but has been forced to withdraw through injury.
“It is with regret that we announce Troy Coleman’s withdrawal from his scheduled fight on December 6th. Coleman suffered an injury during a training session leaving him unable to compete in our ‘Backlash’ event at the Hangar Venue.
“We are disappointed for Troy, and we wish him a speedy return to the ring soon.
“The event will proceed as planned, with eight scheduled bouts featuring some of the best talent from across the UK.
“Further updates on Coleman’s condition and anticipated return will be provided as they become available.”
