Joe Gallagher gives his expert view on the upcoming Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk undisputed showdown
British trainer Joe Gallagher has broken down the much anticipated upcoming fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk and has claimed one man is ‘criminally underrated.’
This contest is the best in the sport right now and sees two unbeaten fighters come together to contend the undisputed title for the first time in the division since 1999.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Gallagher gave his view on the fight.
“I feel like because of Usyk’s nimbleness with his feet moving left, right and centre, if Tyson was to come in at 18.5, 19 stone people say he’s got to use his body weight on him but if your man doesn’t stand still how do you use your body weight on him?
“Fury, every time he’s up against it, he delivers. Fights he’s involved in where he’s expected to win, you get a version of Fury, but not the best version, and I think we’ll get the best version again.
“I think the Francis Ngannou performance, he just rocked up and didn’t perform or train well. I hope that’s not the case for this. I always feel on the big fight, on the night, Fury delivers in the moment.”
He then praised the Ukrainian, but ultimately picked Fury to win.
“Usyk has a cool head, travels to everyone’s back garden and has won. But is this just a step too far or does Usyk think I’ve beat fellas like you before and I’m going to do you? Good fight but I’m going for Tyson, I think he’s criminally underrated and we’ll see that in this fight.”
Gallagher has recently taken on former cruiserweight world champion Lawrence Okolie and will be in his corner when he challenges for a world title in May live on Sky Sports when he steps up to bridgerweight to take on Polish fighter Lukasz Rozanski and Okolie recently broke that fight down.
