As Jalen Brunson stepped up to the free-throw line during the closing moments of the New York Knicks’ victory over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 4 on Sunday, the echoes of “MVP” chants reverberated throughout Wells Fargo Center.
A sizable contingent of Knicks supporters made the journey from Madison Square Garden, approximately two hours north, to rally behind their team. Their dedication was rewarded with a stellar 47-point performance from Brunson, positioning the series 3-1 in favor of the Knicks as it heads back to New York.
Following the game, as some of these fervent fans exited Wells Fargo Center, their voices resounded in the lobby with chants of “F— Embiid,” directed at the 76ers big man Joel Embiid who was displeased with the Knicks’ presence in the arena, conveyed his frustration when speaking to reporters after the defeat.
“Disappointing. I love our fans,” Embiid said, per SNY. “Think it’s unfortunate, and I’m not calling them out, but it is disappointing. Obviously, you got a lot of Knicks fans, and they’re down the road, and I’ve never seen it, and I’ve been here for 10 years.”
“Yeah, it kind of pi—s me off, especially because Philly is considered a sports town. They’ve always shown up, and I don’t think that should happen. Yeah. It’s not OK.”
