‘The Romford Bull’ Johnny Fisher will face experienced Ukrainian Andrii Rudenko on August 24
‘The Romford Bull’ Johnny Fisher (12-0, 10KO) vs Andrii Rudenko (36-7, 22KO) has been confirmed for August 24 at the Co-Op Arena in Manchester, live on DAZN.
The heavyweight rivals will clash on the Jack Catterall vs Regis Prograis undercard.
25-year-old Fisher heads straight back to the ring, after only exerting 36 seconds of energy in his last fight with Alen Babic on July 6 at the Copper Box Arena in London.
It was meant to be a risky fight for the Southern Area heavyweight champion, but instead the rising star destroyed ‘The Savage’ in under a minute. It was Fisher’s first time headlining and he made his moment in the spotlight count by issuing a devastating statement.
Babic was a heavy-handed world title contender, and now he faces a much more experienced pro in Rudenko, who has been involved in eight championship matches over 44 bouts during his 18-year pro career, sharing the ring with Lucas Browne, Hughie Fury, Alexander Povetkin, Agit Kabayel, and very recently Jared Anderson.
Rudenko was 24-0 until he met then 20-0 Lucas Browne in 2014. The Aussie KO artist was taken the distance for only the second time to outpoint Rudenko and claim the WBA Inter-Continental title, becoming the WBA World heavyweight champion just three fights later.
He also took the reigning WBO Interim heavyweight champion Zhilei Zhang the distance over 10 rounds in 2019.
Rudenko has won WBC International Silver and Ukraine heavyweight titles, and challenged for the European.
Now aged 40, he has an impressive 22 knockouts from 36 victories. However, despite taking the likes of Zhang, Povetkin, Kabayel Hughie Fury and Browne the distance – totalling 58 rounds – he has been stopped twice recently in his last two losses – by 18-0 Vladyslav Sirenko and 15-0 Jared Anderson in rounds six and five, respectively.
Boasting a 91% KO ratio, Fisher will also be aiming to join the same club as Sirenko and Anderson. With eight stoppages coming within the first two rounds, the powerful Romford resident could make another statement if he is able to defeat the veteran in under five rounds.
