After a challenging first season with the Washington Wizards, Jordan Poole is showing significant improvement in his second year, according to Varun Shankar of The Washington Post.
While the Wizards lost their Wednesday game in San Antonio, Poole’s individual performance stood out. He scored a remarkable 42 points on 15-of-22 shooting, contributing six assists, two rebounds, and two steals, showcasing his scoring ability and all-around playmaking.
As Shankar observes, Poole started the 2023-24 season as the Wizards’ starting shooting guard, but his performance was inconsistent, leading head coach Brian Keefe to shift him to the bench to serve as a primary playmaker.
Poole later returned to the starting lineup as the point guard following an injury to Tyus Jones. Poole has embraced the opportunity to have more control of the ball, and he’s thriving in the new role during the 2024-25 season.
“I think [this game] is the perfect example [of the benefits of switching to point guard],” Poole said after his impressive 42-point performance, highlighting how the change in role has allowed him to flourish.
Through 10 games, Poole is averaging 22.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 2.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in 30.7 minutes, while shooting an efficient .457 from the field, .444 from beyond the arc, and .923 from the free-throw line.
Several of these statistics represent career highs, underscoring how Poole is growing and settling into his new role with the Wizards.
