Joseph Parker is still in the dark on the potential Zhilei Zhang rematch
WBC heavyweight and WBO interim heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (35-3, 23KO) admitted he has no idea when his rematch with China’s Zhilei Zhang (27-2-1, 22KO) is likely to take place.
In January 2024, the Kiwi boxing star defeated Zhang at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena, winning on a majority decision with two judges awarding Auckland the victory over his Chinese opponent.
Despite Hall of Fame boxing promoter Frank Warren remaining certain that the rematch will eventually happen, Parker revealed that a date had yet to be set, but that he was committed to his training regime should an agreement be reached.
Speaking exclusively to the boxing team for BetVictor New Zealand, the 32-year-old former world champion said: “I haven’t heard anything or been told anything about a fight since April.
“I have been training hard since April in New Zealand and as soon as we have locked in the fight I will be working with Andy Lee (Parker’s coach) and George Lockhart (Parker’s trainer and nutritionist) to keep training away but it is a waiting game at the moment.
“I just have to be patient.”
