Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee is now looking likelier than ever to sign for Man United.
Manchester United’s squad is undergoing major change at present. Several players have left the club on free transfers this summer, including Anthony Martial.
The French striker’s minutes need replacing with genuine quality, as the Old Trafford side look to find some proper support for Rasmus Hojlund.
Recently, Joshua Zirkzee appears to be the frontrunner to pick up the mantle left by the former number nine, Martial.
Now, Italian media outlet, Corriere di Bologna, have provided an update on Zirkzee’s future – and it’s positive news for Reds supporters.
According to their information, the Bologna player is now ‘increasingly headed’ for a United transfer this summer.
The 12-goal striker is ‘ready to embrace the cause’ of United, while personal terms have already been reached with the Dutchman’s agent.
To further add to United’s intent on signing Zirkzee, Ten Hag has spoken to the 23-year-old directly, in order to convince him to make the move to Old Trafford.
With a release clause of around £34m, this would be a relatively cheap signing in the modern-day game. Zirkzee scored twelve goals last season, helping Bologna to a fifth-place finish in Serie A.
The tall striker would help United play a different style of football in specific situations, while you’d like to think that Zirkzee would improve further with a better quality of player around him.
This feels like a smart signing. Zirkzee would not only be brought in to help out Hojlund, though he’d also push the Dane to greater levels himself if he wants to keep his space within the team. It’s a win win all-round.
