Man United are now seriously thinking about a move to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna this summer.

Over the last few days, it feels like the rumours linking Manchester United with a move to sign a striker are now ramping up. It makes perfect sense, given the fact that Anthony Martial has left and the club need to find some extra help for Rasmus Hojlund in the striker spot.

Erik ten Hag is now staying, so the club can go out there and start acquiring these targets that have no doubt been on his radar for many months now. Among the names linked with a Reds move somewhat consistently recently is Joshua Zirkzee.

Now, journalist Dean Jones has provided an update on that front. He has stated that the 23-year-old striker, who plies his trade for Bologna, is under ‘genuine consideration’ for transfer this summer. However, it is still unclear how Zirkzee would fit into the side, with Rasmus Hojlund leading the line right now.

Check out Dean Jones’ X post on the news here;

Zirkzee, although a little older than Hojlund, enjoyed a breakout season last term, scoring 12 goals in 37 games across all competitions.

Those are very decent numbers for a man who is still learning his trade, though it’s unclear whether he’d be happy to accept a back-up role as the Reds’ main focus in the striker position will be Hojlund.

This could be the issue United will continue to have as they look to find that perfect signing to complement Hojlund. There aren’t many players who’ll be content with a bit-part role in the side. Particularly the younger players who are looking to make a name for themselves.

If Zirkzee is fine with dipping in and out of the team, then this could be a smart piece of business.
