This week, the final roster for the U.S. women’s U-20 national lacrosse team was selected for the World Lacrosse World Cup. The Stars and Stripes are the defending champions, having dominated the last event of its type which took place in 2019.
U-20 head coach Kelly Amonte-Hiller, five years ago, unleashed a force called Izzy Scane onto the lacrosse world. Scane would win two Tewaaraton Trophies with Northwestern. And it should be noted that there are five Northwestern players on the U.S. roster, including forward Madison Taylor, midfielder Noel Cumberland, attacker Hannah Rudolph, midfielder Madison Smith, and goalie Francesca Argentieri.
I think a lot of the U.S. offense will run through her, but there are also other fine options. Kate Levy, the Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.) product, has made the side alongside Boston College’s Emma LoPinto. I think another attack to keep an eye on is Aliya Polisky, the Stanford product who is the only high-school player from Tennessee.
Reagan O’Brien, who was a terrifyingly good scorer at Boston (Mass.) Latin School, has also made the U.S. team as a defender. She and defensive midfielder Kori Edmonson, late of Maryland, will bolster the defense in front of goalies Argentieri and Shea Dolce, the latter of whom has been a standout for Boston College.
This should be, again, a frighteningly good side that other teams will have great difficulty keeping up with in most aspects of the game.
