Yesterday, the four Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association girls’ lacrosse finals took place in the greater Boston suburbs at three different locations, with one doubleheader and three single games.
Equally as disjointed are the finals in Maine, which start this evening with a Class A final between Falmouth (Maine) and Yarmouth (Maine). The game will be played in the same place where Saturday’s Class B and Class C games will take place, Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
This game is notable for one thing: Falmouth is for real. The Navigators are 16-0, and earlier this year ended the 58-game win streak of Kennebunk (Maine). And in their first two games of the tournament, Falmouth shut out their opponents.
Yep, two shutouts, over Waterboro Massabesic (Maine) and Windham (Maine). As good as some schools have been since we started this site a quarter-century ago, I’ve never seen two consecutive clean sheets in a state tournament.
It should be a good match this afternoon, and one worth seeing.
