After a girls’ scholastic lacrosse season which had games being played in late February, the last two teams playing the 2024 campaign take the stage for the last time.

Today at 4 p.m. at the University of Vermont, the Vermont Principals’ Association’s Division 1 final takes place as Essex (Vt.) takes on Hinesburg Champlain Valley Union (Vt.). It will actually be the rubber game of the season, as the teams have met each other twice during the regular season.

The two sides first met May 7th, with Essex taking a 6-5 win. But to close the regular season, Champlain Valley was the 12-8 victor.

Essex has had a star-crossed history. This year’s 16-1 season represents a record number of wins for the program, and last year’s loss in the state semifinals represented the first time the Hornets had ever made it that far in the state tournament bracket. Moreover, Essex had won just one game in 2022.

A win in this game would be a crowning achievement for Harris, who has served as a head coach and as an assistant coach for the school.
