George Kambosos Jr. says he’s focused on “taking out” former three-division world champion Vasily Lomachenko this Saturday, May 11th in their fight for the vacant IBF lightweight title at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
Washed Up and Desperate?
Fans believe Kambosos is a totally deluded, washed-up has-been who is living in the past and has no shot at winning.
They view this fight as a mismatch in favor of the two-time Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko, and doubt that Kambosos will win even one round before the bitter end.
Kambosos may need a working time machine for him to have a chance of winning on Saturday but it’s not looking good for him.
This could be it for the former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight champion Kambosos because he’s lost two out of his last three fights, and looked horrid all three matches.
If he gets beaten here, the defeat will send him to the bottom of the lightweight rankings, where his chances of clawing his way back to the top would be virtually impossible.
No one is giving the 30-year-old Aussie Kambosos a chance in this fight, as he reverted back to the ham & egger he was before his upset of an injured, ring-rusty, and unmotivated Teofimo Lopez in 2021. Kambosos Hias becomes what he once was: an overage lower-level fighter who doesn’t belong among the killers.
Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) is coming back from a defeat against Devin Haney in a fight that the boxing world saw him win, and he’s going to make sure the judges don’t spoil things for him this Saturday when he faces the home country fighter Kambosos.
Kambosos Living in the Past
“This is the fight game. It’s unforgiving. Sometimes it’s not about what you’ve been able to do, but what happens on that one given night,” said George Kambosos Jr. to Top Rank Boxing. “Any given Sunday, you can become a champion and win it all, and that’s what I did. I took my moment. My time will come again and now we’re here.
“I’ve accomplished a lot in this sport, but taking out a guy like Lomachenko, that cements my legacy. On May 12th, I get to remind them again who Kambosos is.
Fans feel that Kambosos Jr. (21-2, 10 KOs) has no chance of winning this fight, and is deluded, still living off his upset win over Teofimo Lopez from three years ago.
That was the Kambosos’ one big moment in his career, and things have crumbled since. He has essentially lost his last three fights and was saved by the judges in his last match against Maxi Huges.
Loma’s Reminder: Age is Just a Number
“I remember a time where I was a man that nobody wanted to fight. Now, of course, everybody wants to fight with me, because I became older. But right now, I’m still dangerous,” said Vasily Lomachenko.
“I still have my speed, my power and my conditioning. I just want to show my best and who I am in boxing.”
