Purse bids for the Okolie vs Lerena bout called
The WBC has been notified that the mandatory fight between bridgerweight champion Lawrence Okolie and interim champion Kevin Lerena could not be agreed upon.
So, a purse bid will now be held for the mandatory fight on September 20 in London, England.
Londoner Lawrence (20-1, 15 KO) captured the WBC bridgerweight title by defeating former champion Lukasz Rozanski in the first round in an impressive performance in May. He is a two-weight world champion having previously held the WBO World cruiserweight title.
Lerena (30-3, 14 KO), in his most recent fight, suffered a close loss up at heavyweight, in a competitive battle against Justis Huni.
The WBC Interim bridgerweight title was captured by defeating Ryad Merhy in 2023.
