Lisandro Martinez is all set to head back to Manchester earlier than anticipated.
Manchester United’s season has been derailed by injuries. I don’t think it’s a stretch to label treatment table woes as one of the key factors as to why it has felt like a real struggle at times.
No player has been hit by the unfortunate injury bug more than Lisandro Martinez. No sooner had he returned, the defender was back out of action for multiple months. However, there was some positive signs earlier this week when Licha was spotted in Argentina training.
The defender travelled with the national team in order to continue his rehab, without any expectation that he’d play for his country. However, according to the Daily Mail, the 26-year-old United star is now set to return to Manchester early, ahead of a possible first-team comeback after injury.
Martinez is now targeting the Brentford game, on Saturday evening, wanting to give himself the best possible shot at being included by training here in Manchester rather than in South Ameirca. Credit to Licha for jetting off to Argentina, in order to be with his teammates for their last get-together before the Copa America in June.
Now, full focus for Martinez will be on United. He’ll want to ensure he can finish the campaign strongly from a personal view, proving that the injuries are now behind him and he’s still a top-class player. I fully believe that to be the case, though the Reds have to manage his minutes carefully.
In all honesty, I think we’ll see Licha among the substitutes for the Brentford game. Potentially coming on late if the result is set in stone, in order to just get back out there as a mental boost. The last thing United will want to do is rush him into starts too early.
