Luke Shaw could make his return to training this week, with the left-back yet to play a minute of football this season.
Manchester United have been without Luke Shaw for the start of this season, with fan frustration growing as the left-back was involved for his country over the summer.
Unfortunately, I just think the Englishman is having some rotten injury luck at the moment. Perhaps that’s to be expected for the remainder of his career, after suffering that horrific problem away at PSV Eindhoven all those years ago.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, Shaw is on the mend. United will host an open training session for media today, with the defender given an ‘outside chance’ at being involved in that session.
Steven Railston believes Shaw will return from his calf injury soon, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him back out on the grass with his teammates at some stage this week.
It’s stated that Shaw will be eased back into proceedings which does make sense given he’s had no pre-season whatsoever. Couple that with Diogo Dalot playing well enough in that left-back slot and it’s a no brainer to take it slowly with Shaw.
There can be no doubt that United are a better outfit with Shaw in the side. He brings that cohesion, balance and quality on both sides of the ball. He’s still the best left-sided defender at the club and I do not see that changing anytime soon.
Hopefully, he’s due back shortly and he can now stay fit for the rest of the season. The Reds have a far better chance at success with him fit and available.
