Abass Baraou to defend European belt against Brit challenger Macaulay McGowan

Abass Baraou (15-1, 9KO)returns to the ring to defend his EBU European Super Welterweight Title against Macaulay McGowan (20-4-2, 5KO) at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on June 14, live on Channel 5, two months on from defeating Sam Eggington in Telford.

Baraou is looking to continue his pursuit of global success as fans are set for a thrilling night of action, live and free on Channel 5.

Berlin boxer Baraou defeated ‘The Savage’ Sam Eggington in his last fight in March via a majority decision after 12 remarkable rounds at the Telford International Centre, with the judges scoring 117-112 and 117-111 in the German’s favour, while the other official saw the fight as 114-114 draw.

Now he returns to the UK as a defending champion against a plucky, durable challenger, who has lost four but never been stopped, despite facing some world class competition.

From Wythenshawe, 29-year-old McGowan, trained by Joe Gallagher, has won his last three fights in a row. In November 2020, McGowan took hard-hitting phenom Tursynbay Kulakhmet the distance over their 10-round WBC International super-welterweight title fight.
