Man United do have eyes on Trevoh Chalobah, as Chelsea are said to be considering offers for the centre-half.
Manchester United have lost Raphael Varane on a free transfer this summer, while other centre-backs may well follow the Frenchman out of the exit door. It’s an area that will require investment during the upcoming transfer window.
Jarrad Branthwaite is undoubtedly the name most-linked with filling that void, though yesterday, we covered a claim which stated Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah was of interest as a cheaper option.
Today, The Standard have given their take on the Chalobah situation. According to their information, United are said to be ‘tracking’ the 24-year-old centre-half, though the Reds may not meet Chelsea’s £25m valuation for the defender.
What’s interesting here is that the Stamford Bridge club are ‘prepared to listen to offers’ for the player, who is said to be in ‘high demand’.
United are thought to retain a ‘strong interest’ in the centre-half and could make a move this summer, though the Reds will have to sell before they can buy, which could delay a move for the Englishman.
This could be a problem for Chelsea, as they look to generate some quick sales, in order to comply with Premier League profit & sustainability rules.
First and foremost, this is concerning. United’s money must be supremely tight if they’re worried about spending £25m on a player whose best years are ahead of him. I understand INEOS’ need to tighten the belt in order to set the right tone going forward, though these are the sort of deals the club should be looking out for, particularly with several holes in the squad to fill.
